Hirotugu Akaike 赤池 弘次 (5 November 1927 – 4 Agustus 2009) adalah statistikawan berkebangsaan Jepang. Pada awal dekade 1970an, ia merumuskan kriteria informasi untuk identifikasi model yang dikenal dengan istilah kriteria informasi Akaike (Akaike information criterion/AIC). Pada tahun 2006 Akaike mendapat anugerah Penghargaan Kyoto untuk kontribusi utamanya terhadap ilmu statistika dan permodelan kriteria informasi Akaike (AIC).Publikasi

Hirotugu Akaike (赤池 弘次 Akaike Hirotugu) (IPA: [akaike çiɾotsɯɡɯ]; November 5, 1927 – August 4, 2009) was a Japanese statistician. In the early 1970s he formulated a criterion for model selection—the Akaike information criterion, which is now widely used. In 2006 Akaike was awarded the Kyoto Prize for his major contribution to statistical science and modeling in the development of the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). On the 5th of November 2017 Google showed a Doodle for Hirotugu Akaike’s 90th Birthday.
